I Love To Make Headlines – Gifty Osei

Popular gospel artiste Gifty Osei has revealed she deliberately stirs controversy to attract public attention.

The Aseda songstress has often been at the receiving end of criticism from the general public for her actions and comments in showbiz and on social media.

She was trolled after appearing on the red carpet of the 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) dressed in a gown – which she later claimed she bought in Dubai for $2,000 – described by many as a “mosquito net”. She was also once accused of wearing hip pads to enhance her hips and enlarge her derriere.

Gifty was at the centre of a fresh storm last July after uploading to Instagram a video of herself in heavy make-up. The video went viral with fans blasting the award-winning musician for what they said was make-up gone wrong, with others suggesting she had put on too much slap – an action viewed as rather flamboyant for gospel musicians who are regarded as modest and conservative.

But she responded to the trolls with a humorous video of herself affecting a foreign accent and telling critics she was learning to speak Twi.

“As a human, you should make yourself happy from time to time. You know, the perception about gospel artistes is that we are snobbish, that we do not socialise and all, so that day I was just having fun,” the 2012 VGMA Gospel Artiste of the Year and Gospel Album of the Year winner explained.

According to her, she has a sunny disposition to life and views insults on her person on social media and other platforms lightly, adding that her nine years in Ghana’s showbiz industry had conditioned her to take the good with the bad.

“If you are new to the industry and do not understand how things work, you would think people hate you. ... I like criticism. Hearing I have done something improper chastens me,” she told Nana Romeo on Accra100.5FM’s mid-morning show, Ayekoo Ayekoo, on Friday.

“… It makes me realise that people are observing me, so I take the good criticisms to perfect my life.”

Don’t Drag Me Into Tribal Politics – Agya Koo

Actor Alex Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has cautioned his critics to refrain from dragging him into tribal politics.

According to him, the 2016 general election should be based on issues devoid of tribalism and insults.

Agya Koo’s comment follows a demonstration staged by some residents of Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region, demanding from the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, his position on tribal comments purported to have been made by Agya Koo against Krobos whilst playing a role in a movie.

The group said Agya Koo described Krobos as people cursed by a dreaded Akuapem fetish priest to forever remain prostitutes.

Speaking at a press, Atta Boakye, Agya Koo’s manager, stated that there is no iota of truth in the demonstrators’ claim, adding that Agya Koo is innocent.

Atta Boakye accused the group of dabbling in unnecessary tribal politics which will not help the society to grow.

Agya Koo and other movie stars based in Kumasi declared their support for Nana Akufo-Addo last September ahead of the 2016 election. They launched the ‘Agenda 57% 4 Nana Addo’ to solicit votes for the party.

According to her, she is being directed by God – to do music and to assist women in their marriages, so, whatever direction God sends her to, is where she goes.

The ‘Osoro Ne Me Fie’ hitmaker is prepping to release her 9th studio album, after being directed by God to return to music.

Alcoholism and Womanizing Doesn't Make You A Real Man- Adjetey Anang

Award winning actor, Adjetey Anang, popularly known as ‘Pusher’ has said that being a man depends on how one is able to control his instincts and not necessarily being a womanizer or an alcohol addict.

“As a man being addicted to alcohol or dating numerous ladies doesn’t make you a real man but rather being discipline enough.”

Speaking on ‘Pae Mu Ka’, a segment on Kasapa Entertainment Show, Pusher noted that though many attributed his ‘bad’ role in ‘Things We Do For Love’ as his actual behaviour, the actor contested that he doesn’t engage himself in any of the social vice character he played as in reality.

When asked what has been his secret for staying relevant in the movie industry and enjoying a fruitful marriage, he said “Though there is pressure in marriage but when you enjoy what you do and also staying positive in your entire marriage life, you’ll enjoy marriage.”

Answering a question posed to him on why he sometimes gets too intimate when acting with colleague actress, Jackie Appiah, Anang revealed that the casts in ‘Things We Do For Love’ series connect since they know themselves well.

He has featured in many Ghanaian movies, including Deadly Voyage, A Sting in a Tale, The Perfect Picture and others. He has also featured in a Dutch movie titled Slavery.

Adjetey Anang has won himself a lot of fans from his role in Things We Do For Love. He has also won awards including An Arts Critique and Review Association of Ghana (ACRAG) Talent Award and A Ghana Union of Theatre Societies (GUTS) Best Actor Award.

Mahama Wasting Tax Payers Money On Billboards - Diamond Appiah

Everywhere you pass nowadays, you are likely to find a huge billboard with Prez Mahama’s photo on it. I mean every nook and cranny, trust me, there is a huge NDC billboard over there.

Many have bemoaned the NDC splashing huge billboards everywhere, well, this time around Diamond Appiah says she just can’t think far as to why NDC billboards have more or less flooded the whole country.

According to Diamond Appiah, while the youth of Ghana are suffering with no jobs and are becoming frustrated, desperate and hopeless, Prez Mahama seems not to care, he’s just wasting the tax payers’ money on giant billboards across the country and more

On Instagram, she posted,

Dear President Mahama , The Youth of this country are suffering, there are no jobs for us to do. After spending so many years in school we come out Frustrated, Jobless, Depressed and become Hopeless. Where are the jobs u promised the youth in the 2012 elections?

Do u really care about our future? All you care about is wasting tax payers money to market yourself n your failed administration on GIANT BILLBOARDS when the people of Ghana are suffering n living in distress. Am not saying marketing ur image as a Presidential candidate is wrong but doing it in moderation wld have been ideal. Whenever I see those Giant billboards, I wonder whether ur Contesting for President or in a marketing competition with Coca cola Company ltd bcos honestly speaking none of the Presidential Candidates your competing with on the ballot paper seem to be interested in wasting money to advertise their image in that excessive manner. Their priority is tackling the issues of the voter n how to improve our socio economic life.

So we beg you in the name of God, Allah or whatever deity you believe in to desist from wasting our tax payers money on unnecessary things that doesn't mean anything to the voter like billboards. The late President Mills campaigned n won without Giant billboards because he had a good message for the people of Ghana. For ur information my family, friends, constituents and I are all voting for Nana Akufo Addo, the masses also say they are all going to do the same so your grand advertising didn't make any impact lol! #Vote Nana #Change is Coming#Number 5 #Enough is Enough

I Am Not Too Old For VVIP - Reggie Rockstone

Reggie Rockstone also known as Ghana’s hiplife Grandpapa has dispelled claims that he is too old to be part of the music group VVIP.

Even though he admits he is old and has accomplished a lot in music as well as being the originator of hiplife, he does not see himself as too big for the group when it comes to its current state.

“I have accomplished a lot and I am older than the rest in the group but this is not the case when it comes to music. There is that humility and respect that is how we have come out with hit tracks like ‘Skolom” ft Sena Dagadu and “Alhaji” enjoying massive airplay and patronage. When it comes to music age is not a factor, what matters is the ability to coordinate well and deliver”, he told Nana Hemaa on Abusua Fm’s Weekend Entertainment Show.

The hiplife Grandpapa in 2014 stated “regardless of my age, I have humbled myself to join my younger brothers, it has not happened before and that is why I call it historical”

Subsequently when Promzy left the group, he joined the VIP which saw its rebirth into the VVIP and the group afterwards has come out with several hit songs including the infamous “Selfie”

I’ve Always Been A Pastor – Majid Michel

Actor, Majid Michel says his new-found love for preaching is a genuine one inspired by his understanding of the Bible.

The actor explained that unlike in most cited instances by people, he did not receive any special calling from God to preach the word.

For some time now, Majid Michel has been spotted at several churches ministering. Recently, he visited the Zoe Chapel International at Tabora, Accra to preach to the congregation.

The actor, in the company of two colleagues, Pascal Anangfio and Timothy Bentum, were present during the church service where Majid prayed and laid his hands on some of the members of the congregation.

Speaking about his new life, the actor explained in an interview on TIG Show with Franky5 on Hitz FM that, “I had a great sense of guilt, so that limited my sinful nature. I fell a couple of times but could not continue, I always came up with a new to identify with the mistake and correct it.”

He added “Then I discovered great revelations in the Bible. Growing up I hardly understood the word of God so as a result, I have discovered great revelations from reading the Bible. I understood it better and it's simpler for me and that was my greatest urge to teach the word of God for people to understand it.”

For him, he has always been a pastor. “I didn’t hear a voice or see a dark cloud or hear the voice of God like the ocean sound or like waves pounding the sea. I didn’t have any experience, I did it as a pastor, well I have always been [a pastor].”

Recently, Majid Majid Michel, in an Instagram post, expressed disappointment at pastors who seek wealth and fame than the core job of winning souls and leading their congregations to Christ.

He expressed worry that some pastors these days do not focus on the dictates that come with their job but rather meddle in immoral acts and also compete against each other for fame and wealth.

Film Bill Raises Hopes

The Ministry for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts on Wednesday, October 26 held a press conference at the Accra Tourism Centre to announce the passage of the Film Bill by Parliament.

Although this came as welcome news for many in the film industry in Ghana, some have accused the Minister, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare of jumping the gun, since the bill is yet to be signed by the President to become a law.

But speaking to Showbiz on Tuesday, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said the fact that the bill had passed through Parliament was enough reason to jubilate.

“It is a new dawn in the film industry because for the first time after 1961, Parliament has passed the film bill. We have never come this close and so we should be excited. The moment the bill went past Parliament, it meant the difficult part has been done. I know that very soon the President will append his signature and make it a law, she said.

Showbiz spoke to some actors and industry persons to find out their views on the  bill and whether they believe it has any positives for the movie industry in the country.

Speaking to Michael Ola,  former PRO of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), said the film bill when passed into law will improve the quality of films produced in the country. He outlined that the film fund, which is a provision in the film bill will ensure that there is adequate funds for film makers to finance their movies.

Ola, one of the consultants who advised the Parliamentary Select Committee on the film bill said there were various control mechanisms which will also ensure that films produced in the country are adequately reviewed to ensure that sanity prevails in film production in the country.

”I believe  the president would pass the bill into law by the end of October. He has an interest in this bill since he was one of the people who worked on the first draft of the bill when he was with the Communication Ministry. The Attorney General’s Department is also working on the Legislative Instrument which will also outline punitive measures and other legal requirements for the bill,” he said.

Speaking to the Chairman of the Ghana Culture Forum, Akunu Dake, he also expressed the view that the bill would be passed without much issues. “The Film Law has been a long time coming, all the way back to 1961 and on previous occasions; it did not even pass Cabinet. This time, it has gone all the way through Cabinet, the select committee, the hall of Parliament and it is finally with the President,” he said.

“The bill is a positive venture for filmmakers both in terms of production and administration of film in the country. There are various regulations and standards that are aimed at improving film making in the country. Even more importantly, there are provisions which are aimed at protecting the national interest as far as film is concerned. Industry players now have the opportunity to take control of the industry,” he added.

Bill Asamoah,  President of the Ashanti Regional Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) said the Film Bill is a step in the right direction. “We as film producers welcome it wholeheartedly since it will help streamline the industry in Ghana. We are grateful to Parliament, the President among others for making this a reality and I only hope it is implemented,” he said.

Bill Asamoah cited the film fund as one of the provisions in the bill which would be instrumental in boosting the growth of the industry.

“As it stands now, film makers in the country are unable to produce capital intensive movies due to the lack of funds but with the support of the fund, we hope things will change,” he said

On his part, veteran film producer, Socrates Safo was optimistic that the bill would significantly improve the industry but he expressed caution that he was keeping his fingers crossed until the President finally signed the bill into law.  “ This is not the first time the bill has reached this stage. It went this far during Kufour’s era but it was put on hold due to a petition from broadcasters to amend a clause. I pray it goes all the way and becomes a law.

“However, it is my prayer again it doesn’t remain just a law but backed with the necesaary support in terms of funding among others. Otherwise, it comes to nothing and we are back to square one.”he added.
